2021 Chevrolet Suburban Z71 Spied With No Camouflage

The Chevrolet Suburban is brand new for the 2020 model year and the automaker has big plans for the revised SUV. At the end of this year, the regular model will be joined by an off-road-oriented trim with the suffix Z71.

The Suburban Z71 was previewed via an online configurator in May of this year, and today we can share the first real photos of the rugged sport utility vehicle. These are not official photos and come from our on-site photographers to reveal the entire model, at least on the outside.

The spied prototype has no disguise and, from what we can see, the design perfectly matches what we saw in the online configurator. For example, the bright chrome trim pieces are replaced with black accents, including the bow tie, window frames, Suburban badges, etc. There’s also a new black grille above a redesigned front bumper with a new skid plate at the bottom. The 20-inch aluminum wheels also appear to be slightly modified from the standard model’s available alloys.

Under the hood of the Z71 is the new 5.3-liter V8 of the Suburban with a peak power of 355 horsepower (264 kilowatts) and 383 pound-feet (519 Newton meters) of torque. It is paired with GM’s new 10-speed automatic transmission, which powers the SUV’s four-wheel drive system, which is part of the standard equipment.
