2021 Audi E-Tron GT Spied Looking Glued To The Nurburgring Tarmac
The RS3 sedan isn’t the only future sedan that Audi is testing these days at the Nürburgring as our spies have just spotted another four-door car. Dare we say it’s just as exciting despite the absence of the high-performance compact sedan’s inline-five turbocharged engine. In fact, it doesn’t have a combustion engine at all since the E-Tron GT is a pure EV strongly related to the Porsche Taycan.
Audi refuses to remove some of the camouflage, but the disguise cannot hide the fact that the zero-emission sedan will remain extremely faithful to the eponymous concept unveiled almost two years ago. Yes, it has bigger mirrors and traditional door handles, but the rest seems to be a spitting image of the car on display at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. There are probably a few other understated changes from concept to design. production that lurk under the camouflage, although we are sure this is not a big departure from the showcar.
The Four Rings reiterated that the E-Tron GT is still expected to debut before the end of the year despite the coronavirus outbreak interfering with the company’s plans. Although the Ingolstadt-based brand was unwilling to share preliminary technical specifications, we will remind you that the concept had two electric motors, all-wheel drive and a 90 kWh battery.
The road model is unlikely to stray too far from the 2018 version, which has a combined output of 582 horsepower – good for a 0-62 mph (100 km / h) in 3.5 seconds and a 0-124 mph (0-200 km / h) in more than 12 seconds. It hit 240 km / h (149 mph) and had a maximum range of over 400 km (249 mi) by WLTP.
We expect Audi to sell several versions of the E-Tron GT to mirror the Taycan lineup offered by Porsche. It is expected to undermine its sister model in Stuttgart given the positioning of the two brands under the umbrella of the VW group. Using that logic, the base trim should be cheaper than the $ 103,800 Porsche is asking for a Taycan 4S in the United States. The price could drop further given that there is a rear-wheel drive Taycan in China with a single engine.
With the Los Angeles Auto Show postponed to next May, it’s unclear when and where the production-ready E-Tron GT will premiere. Audi could unveil the electric sedan at an online-only event, as so many other automakers have done during these troubled times caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
